As reported by me earlier, I was present at Verna as well as at Porvorim. I am also one of the people who were arrested.
I fully agree with the sentiments expressed about what democracy is. Let me also say that the people marching to the assembly complex wanted to hand-over a memorandum to CM, especially when it was his day of listening to the grievances of the people. These were not private but public grievances that were creating sores everywhere in Goa due to CMs lackadaisical attitude in the first place. I was the person who brokered an agreement with the cops at the gate that a delegation of a few women leaders will meet the CM in his chambers when there was total refusal on entry. This was agreed to. But the delegation came back to report that the CM has infact insulted them by making crude remarks about the agitators. This, as well as the police high-handed call to the people to either disperse or face the consequences enraged the people. It is when the police started dragging people into the waiting bus, I approached Inspector Gaad and SP Dev Banaulikar that we will get into the bus of our own accord and I myself got into the bus. But when I saw from the bus that one young man was being loaded into a police jeep by violent force, I started getting down from the bus when Dev Banaulikar stopped me. I told him that I will go in the jeep with the young man or else the young man should be into the bus, only then Dev Banaulikar gave orders for the young man to be brought to the bus. All remained peaceful from then on. The two ladies who were assaulted by the police have only retaliated. And there is nothing shameful about that. Only it is shameful for the police to act high-handedly with an educated collective of Goans demanding that their CM listens to their grievances which have been hitherto thrown to the winds.
Example of how violent agitations work:
The Toll Free Number 1077 of the flying squad has been declared today. This was not forthcoming with plenty of excuses. Why flying squad in the first place?? Why not the Police??? Let the police go to the site of complaint and verify if the person undertaking the job has the NOC or other documents to do so. If not, stop the activity there and then by even arresting the person/contractor concerned. You don't need a special flying squad to do this basic thing when the police is already there on call. Why spend more of tax-payer's money in setting up flying squads? This only goes to show that the government has no intention to stop these things. It is like the government of Orissa fudging the documents and conniving with the Posco management to hoodwink the Environment Ministry at New Delhi.... or so we are given to understand by the headline news (Herald- Pg 11) '" Forest land transfer to Posco to be stalled??"

Andolan Bharkatu naye, Agitation should not go wayward. http://epaper.lokmat.com/ArticleImage.aspx?article=19_05_2010_004_001&mode=1
In today’s (May 19, 2010) editorial Lokamt Marathi daily , although new to Goa, but having highest Goan readership has raised a very valid point. Demonstrations, agitation are essence of Democracy. Those who lead the demonstration should .take every step that agitation does not go wayward due to their egoistic and aggressive approach. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has met the delegation of the demonstrator. He also gave assurance to look into the matter with due sympathy. He was also right to refuse to meet people outside. It was the duty of the delegation to control the feelings of agitating group. Agitators were so violent that they attacked Police and went to the extent that few lady constables cloths were tore down, “Kahi Mahila Constabalche kapade fadale” and few were injured.
My comments : Democracy is most beautiful gift to law abiding citizens. We must preserve it. If we want good governance it is not only duty of Administrator and Politicians but agitators should take up most care that agitation in no way take a violent turn.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is not ENOUGH that GOOD, HONEST citizens contest elections. It is not ENOUGH that GOOD, HONEST citizen voters elect good, honest representatives. GOA urgently needs 'GOOD, HONEST, DISCIPLINED SYSTEM of GOVERNANCE'. Wherein, even a dishonest person is forced to be good, honest n disciplined, or to QUIT.
Only through PPS can such 'good, honest n disciplined system of governance' be identified and accepted. PPS GOA =PEOPLE for POLITICAL SANITY = PEOPLE'S POWER SYSTEM for a date in 2012
Display the 'PPS' sticker on your vehicle today, to reject political madness tomorrow.
