Subject: The incomparable Paltadacho Munis - A critic review by floriano lobo.
My analysis of the two section of this movie.
Before and After [watching]
Before:
-The rave reviews from Toronto Film Festival.
-The exposure of its out-right dismissal by ESG
-The cover-up by the govt of Goa offering Shetgaonkar Rs. 25 lacs.
-The all out advertising of this movie as PALTADACHO MUNIS which should have been
Poltodcho Munis.
-The many questions asked why PALTADACHO and not POLTODCHO.
-The controversy after Goa Su-Raj Party gave a Press Note against the use of PALTADACHO,
the word not being Konkani vocabulary word.
- Explanations to the extent that (a) after Paltad being silent.
- Adherence by floriano to say that Paltadacho a foreign word not understood by
ordinary Goan who would want to see the movie and make it a box-office hit, especially when
it has raves internationally.
After:
-A reasonably good movie.
-Excellent cinematography and excellent sound.
-A watcher's mind would go wandering if the director had not given perfect sequencing.[Scenes changed at the right time]
-Main lesson to be learnt: Do not trust religion. It works against humanity in more ways than one. I am especially glad and happy that Shetgaonkar has given out this
message, which message I have been propagating for long. 'God being made to talk what
men would like Him to is exceptionally and dramatically demonstrated...." Very Well Done" is
what I say. Ordinary gullible people must see this scene more often to be weaned from this
God speaks disease.
-At least once the word 'POLTODI' has been clearly spoken by 'Mauxi' when she advises
Vinaik (the forest guard) not to venture to the other side for his own good. Hence good reason
to have struck off PALTADACHO. Even the Devnagri Poster says 'Paltadcho manis' as
Sandeep has rightly pointed out.
- Apparently, the temple was built on the forest (Vinaik's) side of the river. But Shetgaonkar
should have at least briefly shown the religious procession crossing the bridge, which he has
not done.
And lastly for the central theme:
-That RELIGION is the last recourse of a politician who is always but always a crook.
The more religious a politician is, he/she is million times more corrupt, morally as well as
ethically. That religious leaders who associate with politicians are Maha Corrupters. This
makes at least two catholic priests shine in this light. One, of ex Mandur fame and the other,
the Colva riots fame.
The last word:
I have quietly enjoyed the movie, at times had to rein in my emotions.
Not the type of movie I would fire crackers.
Plenty of scope for Shetgaonkar to improve and go on to make a success out of his career.
We wish him all the very best. However, we feel that he should have corrected the word PALTADACHO once and for all as a mistake, through a press conference. Seeing so many seats empty in a small theatre despite advertised bookings, goes on to show that the movie is not sufficiently publicized to gain the attention of ordinary Goans who should actually see it.
