Dear Karuna,

There was a time when a Goan Expat from Britain worked with Goa\'s CM for 3 months to install Solar Power Plant on the hill of Bastora, a village which is very close (about 2 Kms) to Mapusa City/Town. And he went back to UK clinching the deal. The Electricity generated by this Solar Power Plant would electrify the entire Mapusa City. But to his misfortune and the misfortune of Mapusa City, the government changed with the CM deposed and his collegue in the Congress Party succeeded him by coming out of the Congress. The deposed CM was Luizinho Faleiro and the New CM was Francisco Sardinha. This meant that the negotiating process for the Solar Power Plant would have to be restarted all over again. The Goan Expat clean forgot about the unit and never made any attempt to talk to the Goa Government afresh.

We want to electrify Goa completely through renewable energy through wind mills, wave power, hydro, solar, and bio

A time will come when we will require your help in a big way.

Cheers

Dear FLORIANO,

After all the letters and calls the Government finally incorporated supplier liability into the nuclear liability bill. It would have been even better if all our demands, especially unlimited liability were met. But we have ensured that suppliers are not let off the hook.

Nuclear energy is dangerous and there is still no safe way of dealing with nuclear waste. Renewable energy is fast and safe and has already made a bigger contribution to our power sector than nuclear.

Greenpeace is working in Bihar, one of the most backward states in the country, to highlight the part renewable energy can play in its development. Energy is a lifeline for people living in a state plagued by poverty and corruption. Getting cheap and sustainable energy will help development in the state. A lot of resources will be required to make clean electricity for all a reality. This has worked in Jalka village in Maharatra and can work here too.

Watch this success story from Jalka and help make this project a success.

A large chunk of the energy in our country currently comes from coal which is dirty, a chief cause for climate change and will displace millions if we were to mine enough to power our future. Renewable is the safest and cheapest alternative available right now.

Instead of generating energy in one centralized location and then transporting it, one can generate quick renewable energy close to consumption area, under the control of the consumer. This is the decentralised renewable energy (DRE) model.

There are successful instances of DRE in Bihar itself. The state is known to have power problems but some small villages have power due to DRE plants in the area. With good financial support this technology can help the entire country.

Make a contribution to help solve the energy crisis:
